Understand Gender-Based Violence at Work

Gender-based violence is harm, harassment, or abuse based on sex, gender, or identity.

It can include:

  • Sexual harassment
  • Violence outside of work that affects the workplace
  • Technology-facilitated harm and violence

Technology-facilitated harm and violence (sometimes called digital harm) is a form of gender-based violence.

It affects safety at work and can make it hard to focus.

PSHSA research shows 39% of workers reported witnessing technology-facilitated harassment.

GBV can be:

  • Subtle or obvious
  • Ongoing or one-time
  • Experienced differently depending on risk and barriers

Some workers face higher risk, including women, racialized workers, Indigenous workers, newcomers to Canada, and gender-diverse individuals.

Everyone deserves a safe, respectful, and supportive workplace.
